Will they not learn?

March 29th, 2008 by Scott

Stop-Loss is a film released by the Hollywood about the Iraq war. At the heart of the film is negative commentary about the war and another attempt to begin placing the idea of desertion in the minds of the people.

How did the film do?

Stop-Loss opened to only $1.6 million Friday from just 1,291 plays and should eke out $4+M. Although the drama from MTV Films was the best-reviewed movie opening this weekend, Paramount wasn’t expecting much because no Iraq war-themed movie has yet to perform at the box office.

“It’s not looking good,” a studio source told me before the weekend. “No one wants to see Iraq war movies. No matter what we put out there in terms of great cast or trailers, people were completely turned off. It’s a function of the marketplace not being ready to address this conflict in a dramatic way because the war itself is something that’s unresolved yet.

Translation:
People like feeling good about their country. We love our country and we want to see success. People want to be rallied and feel good. They don’t like being told everything is our fault and we should feel bad about ourselves.

When Hollywood begins making films people want to see instead of trying to force a political view on us, then people will want to see their films.

Bad Boys

Remember how the Democrats kept harping about that “Culture of Corruption” during the last election? Why are the Republicans NOT harping about the Democratic Culture of Corruption and lack of ethical actions we are seeing now?

Examples? Here are two in the news recently.

Democrat Gov. Eliot Spitzer

  • Federal money-laundering probe (source: CNN)
  • Allegations of link with illegal prostitution ring (source: CNN)
  • Democrat Gov. Paterson

  • Admits numerous extramarital affairs since 1999 (source: NY Daily News)
  • Democrat Senator Barack Obama

  • Obama continues defending his ties with his pastor’s racial comments (source: CNN)

    Democrat Congressman William Jefferson

  • Grand Jury Indictment in Bribery Investigation (source: ABC
  • Affidavit: $90,000 found in congressman’s freezer (ironic isn’t it) (source: CNN)
  • (Note: This post was first published several days ago, but I felt it needed updated after today’s news of Democrat Gov. Paterson)

Weather Channel Founder: Sue Al Gore for Fraud

    March 14th, 2008 by Scott

The debate on “global warming” is, dare I say, warming up? Many prominent climatologists have stated that claims of “man made global warming” are overblown.

    Today, according to Fox News:

John Coleman, who founded the [Weather Channel] in 1982, suggests suing for fraud proponents of global warming, including Al Gore, and companies that sell carbon credits.

“Is he committing financial fraud? That is the question,” Coleman said.

“As you look at the atmosphere over the last 25 years, there’s been perhaps a degree of warming, perhaps probably a whole lot less than that, and the last year has been so cold that that’s been erased,” he said.

“I think if we continue the cooling trend a couple of more years, the general public will at last begin to realize that they’ve been scammed on this global-warming thing.”

Source: Fox News, March 14, 2008

As I have been saying for years, the concept of man made global warming is overblown. The environmentalists will use brand marketing to their advantage by choosing the hottest summer days to have their “global warming” rallies.

Have you noticed how quiet they’ve been during this past winter now that it was the coldest since 2001?

Many have equated the “global warming” crowd with a modern cult. You’ve got your “god figure,” Al Gore. You’ve got your disciples who blindly follow their cult leader without question. You’ve got large scale donations in the form of “carbon credits.”

And that last element is they key. Follow the money. The concept of carbon credits is that you can purchase these credits from “carbon credit organizations” that will sell them to you. In exchange, you can emit more pollution to the environment.

Many environmentalist ideas sound good at first thought, but are based on false assumptions.

Take forests, for example. For years, environmentalists argued that we should leave forest undergrowth alone as that is the way “nature” wanted it. Those with science on their side argued this was wrong.

What happened? There were MORE, not less, forest fires. The thin, dead wood, that underbrush is comprised, ignited and fueled more and more forest fires, destroying many more forests. AND FOREST FIRES RELEASE EVIL CARBON DIOXIDE INTO THE ATMOSPHERE!!

Had the underbrush been cleared, as it is in many areas, there are less forest fires. But we shouldn’t let facts get in the way of good science, should we?

I hope this does go to trial. I hope we have a congressional hearing on the matter that occupies the entire summer in the way the Iran-Contra hearings and major league baseball hearings.

In this way, we can finally watch the environmentalists flail as their strawman collapses.

My question is this: will Al Gore have his Nobel prize revoked for promoting bad science and costing countries and economies trillions of dollars?

    Keep Cool, Man

    March 14th, 2008 by Scott

Several items in the news recently. Let’s dig right in. First, the numbers are in and this was the coolest winter, worldwide and in the States, since 2001. It was also the 54th coolest winter on record since 1895.

NOAA: Coolest Winter Since 2001 for U.S., Globe - Source: NOAA

Next, the “climate panel” is under scrutiny now that their ‘global warming’ numbers are being called into question. According to the Washington Times:

For example, the researchers who created the hockey stick used the wrong time scale to establish the mean temperature to compare with recorded temperatures of the last century.

Because the mean temperature was low, the recent temperature rise seemed unusual and dramatic. This error was not discovered in part because statisticians were never consulted.

The IPCC … predicting global warming will lead to widespread catastrophe if not mitigated, yet failed to provide the most basic requirement for effective climate policy: accurate temperature statistics.

A number of weaknesses in the measurements include the fact temperatures aren’t recorded from large areas of the Earth’s surface and many weather stations once in undeveloped areas are now surrounded by buildings, parking lots and other heat-trapping structures resulting in an urban-heat-island effect.

Source: Washington Times, March 14, 2008

Why can’t people just accept that the earth’s temperature isn’t a static thing. Temperatures go up. They go down. Everything on this planet swings back and forth like that.

What I want to know is when are the leftist environmentalists going to change their story and start claiming that man-made global warming will bring on a new ice age? You watch, it will swing from global warming to global cooling in the next five years.

    Romney as Veep?

    March 11th, 2008 by Scott

The word is spreading about Romney’s interview with Sean Hannity that is going to air tonight. Indications are Romney could be selected to run with MCain as Vice President.

I think this is the thing that is needed to kick start McCain’s campaign. I was never a huge fan of McCain and wrote about how a govorner would beat a senator in the election. Plus Romney has the core conservative values that are needed on the Republican ticket.

As for the timing? As Obama and Mrs. Bill Clinton slug it out, McCain is forgotten. This is just the thing to take back the momentum. I wouldn’t even doubt if this had Rove’s fingerprints on it. Rove’s got the track record for running a winning campaign, after all.

And if this does happen, then I my prediction about Romney in the White House would be right on. After all, in four years who will know if McCain will run for re-election with his age being a factor already.

    Romney in ‘12? Giddy up!
